According to autocar.co.uk, Maserati is considering a Porsche 911 rival, set for release by 2015.
The mid-engined Maserati will be offered with both V6 and V8 units and will get a chassis based on that of the upcoming Alfa Romeo 4C, which will be unveiled in Detroit next month.
The Italian luxury brand is targeting 50,000 unit sales annually by 2015, and the new model will play a substantial role in increasing the company’s sales, alongside the new Quattroporte, the Ghibli sedan and the Levante SUV.
Maserati’s rumored sports car could receive the “GrandSport” name, with power coming from a twin-turbo V6 producing 450 horsepower and a twin-turbo V8 with 550 hp. The car’s curb weight will be around 1,400 kilograms, while the price tag is expected to dip below $161,000.
