Dakar Rally 2013 – Stage 8: Peterhansel set to keep lead

Stephane Peterhansel is expected to keep the Dakar Rally lead as a flooded riverbed caused chaos in stage eight, with only five cars crossing the finish line, lead by Guerlain Chicherit.

Torrential rain had already resulted in the stage start point being changed, and conditions ultimately became impossible.

The stage was eventually neutralized at checkpoint two, and organizers are now deciding which sections should be counted in the results.

Going into Sunday’s rest day, it seems certain that Peterhansel will maintain the overall rally lead, with Nasser Al-Attiyah behind in second place.
