So it’s finally here, the long-awaited seventh-generation of the legendary Chevrolet Corvette, proudly wearing the Stingray moniker which last seen on the second- and third-generation models.
Design-wise, Chevrolet ditched the rounded taillights – found on all Corvettes since 1961 – for Camaro-like square-shaped ones; the new sports car also gets rear-quarter windows which were last seen on the first-generation coupe model. Up front is an angry-looking front fascia, deriving from the C6 generation.
Inside, the cabin is a major improvement with a driver-orientated dashboard and a new 8-inch screen in the center of the instrument panel; According to the Chevorlet, quality materials have been used such as real carbon fiber, aluminum and leather.
On the technical side, the new Vette receives a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine delivering 450 horsepower and 610 Nm of torque, while fuel economy is reduced thanks to several features which include an advanced combustion system, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing.
Chevrolet says the new sports car is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds, but the American automaker makes no mention of top speed.
The new Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray will go on sale in fall 2013. In the meantime, you can head to the photo gallery below.
