Updated: All-new Porsche 911 GT3 breaks cover [w/ video]

Just like Lamborghini, who celebrated their 50th anniversary by unveiling the new Veneno, Porsche celebrated the 911’s 50th anniversary by launching its all-new 911 GT3 at the Geneva Motor Show on Monday evening.

Power on the new 911 GT3  comes from a 3.8-litre flat-six engine that yields 475 hp at 8.250 rpm, mated to a PDK seven-speed transmission. Porsche dropped the famous Metzger engine for a DFI (Direct Fuel Injection) unit based on the 911 Carrera S engine, with only a few common parts shared.

The new GT3 uses active rear-wheel steering for the first time; depending on the speed, the system steers in the opposite or the same direction as the front wheels, thereby improving agility and stability.

It is easy to distinguish the 911 GT3 from its lesser siblings thanks to a large, fixed rear wing, new front and rear bumpers, and a 44 mm wider rear axle (compared to the Carrera S).

The sports car is capable of accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds; the top speed of 315 km/h is reached in the seventh and final gear of the PDK transmission
