Sebastien Ogier secured his fourth victory and sixth podium of the season after a commanding drive during the seventh round of the 2013 World Rally Championship which took place in Sardinia, Italy.
Following a puncture for his Volkswagen team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala during the early stages of the rally, Ogier lead the way on Friday morning; the Frenchman maintained his lead throughout the whole weekend as disaster struck his Citroen rivals on Saturday morning with Hirvonen crashing out from second-place and Dani Sordo spinning from third.
Hirvonen dropped out of the points and Sordo fell back to fourth behind Thierry Neuville and Jari-Matti Latvala who eventually finished second and third respectively. Latvala managed to climb back from 12th overall.
Andreas Mikkelsen was a late retirement; the VW driver broke his Polo WRC’s suspension on SS14. This elevated Martin Prokop to fifth place.
Mads Ostberg, who crashed out from fourth place on Friday night, finished the rally in eighth place ahead of WRC2 victor and ex-Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica and Emirati driver Khalid Al Qassimi.
