McLaren recently released the full official specifications for their P1 hypercar, which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a scary 2.8 seconds; but the specs were overshadowed by something a lot more interesting for petrolheads: the car’s laptime around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Porsche and their brilliant 918 Spyder currently hold the record with a 6 minute 57 seconds laptime, and it’s no secret that their British rivals have been trying to break that number for quite a while now. Initial rumors claimed that the McLaren P1 managed to lap the ring in 7 minutes 4 seconds, falling 7 seconds short of the 918 Spyder’s record; however, new rumors have emerged suggesting the P1 successfully smashed the record by clocking 6 minute 47 seconds.

Nothing’s official as of yet, we’ll have to wait for confirmation from McLaren, but we do have video footage of the hypercar being thrashed around the unforgiving track.
