Dubai 24 Hours: V8 Racing’s Chevy Corvette on pole

V8 Racing’s #21 Chevrolet Corvette took the Dubai 24 Hours field by surprise, clinching pole position in the final qualifying session this afternoon. Driver Nicky Pastorelli lapped the Dubai Autodrome in 1:57.282, the fastest time of the week so far.

V8 Racing will share the front row on tomorrow’s starting grid with Team Abu Dhabi by Black Falcon #1 Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, which qualified second thanks to Jeroen Bleekemolen’s efforts. The Dutch driver also put the sister Black Falcon #2 Mercedes in fourth place for Friday’s race.

Separating the two Black Falcon Mercedes is Fach Auto Tech’s #4 Porsche 997 GT3 R piloted by Martin Ragginger, the Porsche was 0.4 seconds shy of pole; SX Team Schubert’s #76 BMW Z4 GT3 will start from P5 following Dirk Werner’s 1:58.285 laptime.

The fastest of the Ferraris was Ram Racing’s #30 458 Italia, it will start the race from P6, followed by the two Craft Racing Aston Martins, with the #17 Vantage GT3 starting from P7 and its #7 sister from P8.

Spirit of Race’s #51 Ferrari 458 rounded out the top 10, qualifying behind Walkenhorst Motorsport’s #27 BMW Z4 GT3.
