Combining great handling characteristics – thanks in most part to the front engine rear-wheel drive configuration – and lightness, BMWs are some of the best cars for going sideways. However, the German brand is also famous for its class-leading technologies.
BMW’s latest technological statement is an autonomous M235i Coupe prototype; just like any other autonomous vehicle, the M235i prototype can drive itself, but what sets it apart from the others is its ability to perform extreme maneuvers like drifting. Yes, the car can go sideways by itself.
The aim of this project is not to create a self-drifting car, it’s rather to demonstrate how BMW’s autonomous technology can master extreme driving situations. BMW’s autonomous M235i Coupe made its debut at the 2014 Consumer Electronics two weeks ago.
