Christopher Njeim has won the first round of the 2014 Lebanese Karting Championship at the Pit Stop Karting circuit in Zouk this afternoon. Njeim qualified on pole in the Junior class and won both pre-final and final races after a dominant performance.
“I’m looking forward to the upcoming races,” said Njeim after the race, “This race was easy, but I’m expecting a bigger challenge in the next races. Christophe spun out today so I pulled a comfortable gap but I expect him to put more pressure in the upcoming rounds.”
Christophe Rizk, who was Njeim’s closest pursuers, spun out in the early parts of the race and dropped back from second to last. However, a magnificent performance saw him salvage P3 in the end.
A disappointed Christophe said: “I had a problem with my brakes so I spun out; the problem was persistent throughout the race but I managed to finish third. I would’ve gotten at least second place if it weren’t for the problem.”
Second place ultimately went to Kevin Kanaan who drove consistently behind Christopher Njeim. Kanaan was thrilled to be on the podium in the opening round of the championship; he said: “Everything was great today, but I will try to improve even further in the next round. I benefited from Christophe’s spin today, and I need more experience to be able to challenge these guys regularly.”
