Williams’ Felipe Massa took a shocking pole position during Qualifying for the eighth round of the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship in Austria. Massa lapped the Red Bull Ring in 1m08.759s to beat teammate Valtteri Bottas to pole and secure a Williams 1-2 on the starting grid, as Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg settled for third.
Rosberg’s teammate Lewis Hamilton exceeded the track limits on his first flying lap and spun on the second, therefore did not register a laptime and will start tomorrow’s race from ninth on the grid.
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso will start from fourth ahead of Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo whose teammate Sebastian Vettel had another poor qualifying, failing to get into Q3 by setting the 13th fastest lap only.
