Volkswagen Golf R in the Middle East starting August 2014

The most powerful Golf ever produced by Volkswagen – the all-new Golf R – is set to arrive in the Middle East this August fully loaded with innovative features.

Each original add-on to the eagerly anticipated model has been specifically designed to enhance the popular compact sports car.

Thomas Milz, Managing Director, Volkswagen Middle East, said: “The Golf R exudes absolute performance with its understated, yet strong and assured appearance. Its distinctive styling also accentuates the Golf’s innate sporty character, which will certainly appeal to people across the region.”

The standard model can be visually distinguished as an impressive sports car by details such as standard bi-xenon headlights with newly designed LED daytime running lights (in dual-U design); matte chrome door mirrors, dark red LED rear lights and two-branch exhaust system with four chrome tailpipes. The latest model also features a new bumper design with exceptionally large air inlets, modified radiator grille, brake callipers in black and the “R” logo subtly emblazoned across the interior and exterior styling of the car.

The model also features the newly designed five-spoke, 18-inch alloy “Cadiz” black wheels; a keyless entry and starting system; park distance control that provides acoustic warning signals at the front and rear of the vehicle and “Rear Assist” rear view camera.

The interior underlines the Golf R’s positioning as the range’s flagship model with “carbon touch” inlays, sport seats in a “fabric-Alcantara” with decorative stitching in crystal grey; leather trimmed three-spoke sport steering wheel; automatic climate control; a radio-CD system with touchscreen and a mobile device interface with iPod/iPhone adapter cable.

Optional features include 19-inch alloy “Pretoria” wheels; a transparent tilt/slide sunroof; electronic seat adjustments and the seat centres and inner sides of side bolsters are wrapped in “Vienna” leather or “Nappa Carbon” leather. The Golf R also offers the Discover Pro radio-navigation system and the “Premium” mobile phone interface, which consists of a set of new mobile online services as additional options.

“The standard model comes with a whole host of exceptional trims, detailing and features that make them highly attractive. People seeking fun and extreme driving have every reason to be excited about the model’s much anticipated Middle East debut,” Milz concluded.

The all-new Golf R will be available in a range of styles and colours: solid, metallic, pearl effect and mother of pearl effect shades and a range of special colours including limestone grey metallic, lapiz blue metallic, deep black pearl effect and oryx white mother of pearl effect.

With a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG), the new Golf R completes the classic sprint in 5.0 seconds and can reach a top speed of 250 km/h. Like all three previous Golf R models, the new vehicle also transfers its turbocharged engine power to the road via a permanent all-wheel drive system.

Delivering pure dynamic performance is a newly configured sport suspension system (body height lowered by 20 mm), with progressive steering and “ESC Sport” – which can now be fully deactivated for track driving. The 4MOTION system with a fifth generation Haldex coupling eliminates nearly all traction losses on the road.

The sporty compact will be available from Volkswagen dealers across the GCC and Levant.
