July 10, 2014 – One of the greatest sports sedans of all time, the Lancer Evolution, will cease to exist, Mitsubishi has recently confirmed as it unveiled pictures of the 2015 model year Evolution X.
Mitsubishi is pulling the plug on the Lancer Evolution when production of the 2015 model stops, and it has no plans for an eleventh generation. The company will shift its focus onto a hybrid sports car that will unlikely carry the legendary “Evolution” badge, but will be considered as a successor to the Evo. However, the hybrid sports car is still far off.
For 2015, the model gets a few subtle updates, including heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals and a new drop cup holder in the cabin. No changes were made to the 291hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The Lancer Evolution has arguably been the brand’s most popular model ever since its introduction in 1992; it powered Finland’s Tommi Makinen to four World Rally Championship drivers’ title and one WRC constructors’ title.
