Saudi Arabia’s Yazeed Al Rajhi leads the way in the 2014 edition of the Cyprus Rally, ninth round of the 2014 European Rally Championship and fifth round of the 2014 Middle East Rally Championship, after five special stages, four of which were contested this morning.
Al Rajhi won Thursday night’s super special stage, but he lost the lead to Citroen’s Khalid Al Qassimi in SS2 this morning. However, the Saudi struck back on the third special to retake the lead, while Al Qassimi dropped back to fourth overall behind the Ford Fiestas of Qatar’s Abdulaziz Al Kuwari and Poland’s Kajetan Kajetanowicz.
Al Rajhi now leads with a 10-second gap to Al Kuwari who in turn has a 10-second cushion to Kajetanowicz. Qatar’s Nasser Al-Attiyah had an engine failure on the second special stage and will restart under Rally 2 tomorrow.
