Jules Bianchi undergoes surgery for severe head injury

Formula 1 driver Jules Bianchi has underwent surgery at the Mie University Hospital in Japan due to severe head injury following his heavy crash during the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix earlier today; the young driver remains in “critical condition”.

Bianchi, driving a Marussia-Ferrari, went off at turn 7 in extremely wet conditions and crashed into the back of a crane that was attempting to lift Adrian Sutil’s Sauber that was also involved in an accident.

A medical car transported the unconscious Bianchi to a nearby hospital, whereas the race was stopped with 6 laps to go, with Lewis Hamilton declared winner.
