Lebanon at the Formula 1 World Championship

Well, not really. Lebanon hasn’t entered the Formula 1 World Championship, and it’s unlikely that the country ever will. However, a Lebanese flag was spotted at the Sochi Autodrom during the first-ever Russian Grand Prix this past weekend, and an image published by the McLaren shows it very clearly.

What was a Lebanese flag doing at a Formula 1 round? The Sochi Autodrom, home of the Russian Grand Prix, was built around the Sochi Olympic Park that hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics, in which Lebanon took part with two athletes.

It’s kind of a bittersweet sight; while seeing the Lebanese flag at such an important event is surely nice, it leaves us with a sad reminder that there are no Lebanese drivers at the pinnacle of Motorsport.
