January 11, 2015 – After a few near misses, Yazeed Al-Rajhi (Toyota) finally claimed his first Dakar stage win, having raced a mere eight stages in the toughest rally in the world. The Saudi’s outstanding performance in Iquique consolidates his third place overall and earned Toyota its first win in 2015.
Orlando Terranova (MINI), who won the seventh special yesterday, was on fire again today, finishing the 510-km special just a minute behind Al-Rajhi, while Nasser Al-Attiyah (MINI) finished third in and, most importantly, put a few extra seconds into his closest rival in the general classification, Giniel de Villiers (Toyota).
The Toyota driver had a comfortable margin just before the final kilometers on the dunes, but he let his chance to claw back some time slip away.
