Formula 1 bans mid-season helmet design changes

February 18, 2015 – It appears that changing helmet designs during a Formula 1 season will be a thing of the past in 2015 as the F1 Commission is pushing towards banning the practice.

The move, proposed by Bernie Ecclestone and adopted by the FIA and team bosses, is obviously to help fans and spectators to more easily identify the drivers, given the ever-increasing trend for multiple helmet designs within a season.

One of the best examples of such practice is four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, who has used around 60 different helmet designs over the course of his career.

In a bid to improve the sport’s marketing, F1 drivers this year will have to start and finish the season with the same helmet colors, just like a rule introduced last year that has forced drivers to keep the same car number for their career.
