August 20, 2015 – Celebrating four decades of sheer driving pleasure this month, the founder of the modern sports sedan segment, the BMW 3 Series – the world’s most successful model series in this premium segment – has undergone design and technology features to enhance the iconic vehicle’s sport look, efficiency and technology offering.
Set to debut in showrooms across the Middle East in September this year, the latest edition of the best-ever selling BMW, with almost 14 million units sold globally, will further raise the standard for dynamic on-road excellence as it welcomes three-, four- and six-cylinder engine variants as well as an array of design features that strength its successful position. The sporting credentials of the new BMW 3 Series can be further accentuated with the option of three different line: Sport, Luxury and M Sport, which give greater flexibility when selecting upholstery and interior trims.
Design: more sporty and attractive than ever
An automotive icon for 40 years and across six model generations, the new-look BMW 3 Series features a sharper and more sporty design than its predecessor. Standing out with improved interior and exterior design improvements, the iconic front end sees new a new grille and air intakes to accentuate the width of the car, giving it a stronger on-road presence. Similarly, the rear apron design with new L-shaped LED taillights emphasise the car’s width and sporting appearance. The newly designed headlights as well as striking LED daytime driving lights on each side of the vehicle, underlining the car’s sporty and powerful visual appeal and creating a stylistic link between the headlights and iconic BMW kidney grille. With full-LED headlights now available as an option, LED indicators are also positioned as “eyebrows” above the headlights. BMW Selective Beam is also on offer, providing excellent visibility in the dark (400m+) without dazzling other drivers as it detects other road-users and selectively excludes them from the high-beam headlight distribution. New paint finishes,and light alloy wheels have been added tot he equipment options.
The enhancements to individuality and personality continue inside, with additional chrome highlights for the controls, air vents and central control panel – as well as a newly crafted centre console with a sliding cover for cupholders and additional storage.
Power
The new BMW 3 Series is available in a range of four engine variants: BMW 318i, BMW 320i, BMW 330i and BMW 340i all with TwinPower Turbo technology. The 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine in the 318i is a new addition to both the BMW 3 Series range and the segment as a whole, while the four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine in the BMW 320i is also making its debut in the BMW 3 Series. Similarly, celebrating their world premiere are the four-cylinder, 2.0-litre engine with the 330i, which replaces the 328i engine, and the top-of-the-range 340i six-cylinder, 3.0-litre engine with 326 hp which replaces the 335i engine.
The three-, four- and six-cylinder petrol engines are all sourced from the BMW EfficientDynamics engine family, which ensures maximum performance and minimal fuel consumption. These features include Brake Energy Regeneration, which charges the battery only when braking, coasting or decelerating, improving fuel efficiency by up to three percent, as well as an Automatic Start/Stop Function. Equipped with BMW ConnectedDrive services, a comprehensive range of technology driver assistance services that connect BMW drivers to the outside world, the upgraded BMW 3 Series makes tasks easier, quicker and safer to perform – ensuring a safer and more convenient driving experience. A key feature is the BMW Head-Up Display in full-colour, which enables all relevant information to be displayed directly in the driver’s field of vision. Parking Assistance is an optional feature with automatic steering when parking parallel.
The latest BMW 3 Series also incorporates the latest-generation Professional navigation system, including iDrive Touch Controller which provides the driver with a 3D design of all maps and graphics, combined with an innovative display concept. As well as numerous functions for navigation, office and multimedia, the system also offers fast route calculation and free map updates for three years. Its sensors also monitor the wheels and steering angle of the vehicle, and can localise the car at all times, meaning that the system can be relied on to navigate even when the GPS signal is weak.
