Dakar Rally: Prologue stage halted as racer hits spectators

January 3, 2016 – The prologue stage of the 2016 Dakar Rally was halted due to an accident involving one of the competing cars and four spectators.

Saturday’s 11-kilometer Prologue special stage, a new addition to the Dakar for 2016, was introduced to determine the running order for the first stage of the rally on Sunday.

However, the Prologue was suspended after Guo Meiling’s X-Raid Mini went off the road, hitting a group of four spectators, 6.6 kilometers into the stage.

Fifty-nine of the 111 competitors in the car class made it through the stage before the stoppage, with Overdrive Toyota driver Bernhard Ten Brinke fastest ahead of Carlos Sainz’s Peugeot.
