February 24, 2016 – BMW is bringing back the 8-Series moniker as it plans to rival Mercedes-Benz’s S-Class Coupe and the Bentley Continental GT, according to a new report by Autocar.
The new 8-Series will enter production in 2020, but the German automaker is said to be still deciding on whether the car should be a traditional coupe like the original 8-Series or a four-door coupe similar to the 6-Series Gran Coupe.
A final decision will be revealed when BMW introduces a concept version of the 8-Series in 2018.
It is worth mentioning that the original BMW 8-Series was introduced as a Coupe-only model in 1989 and remained in production until 1999.
