This V12-powered BMW X5 is faster than a Lamborghini Murcielago

March 14, 2016 – To celebrate its 24 Hours of Le Mans victory back in 1999, BMW created a one-off high-performance X5, and it showcased the model at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance this past weekend.

The BMW X5 Le Mans concept features a V12 engine that produces 700 horsepower – the same engine found in the Le Mans-winning BMW V12 LMR; it enables the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds before hitting an electronically-limited top speed of 310 km/h.

Aesthetically, the X5 Le Mans gets a bulging hood, aerodynamic mirrors, new front and rear bumpers, in addition to lightweight alloy wheels and a sport-tuned suspension.

On the Nurburgring Nordschleife, the X5 Le Mans clocked 7:49.92 in the hands of German racing driver Hans-Joachim Stuck; the laptime is better than that of the Lamborghini Murcielago, BMW M4 and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
