No more manual transmission for BMW M5 & M6

April 6, 2016BMW enthusiasts will be sad to know that the manual transmission will be dropped from future M5 and M6 models, BMW M president Frank van Meel has confirmed.

In an interview with Car & Driver, van Meel said “Demand had dropped to zero” for the six-speed manual transmission in the M6, while orders for a manual M5 have been slow.

Despite the decision to eliminate the manual transmission from the M5 and M6, van Meel said the company is still committed to manual transmissions in other models, including the M2, M3 and M4.

The upcoming BMW M5 is currently under development and will likely be introduced sometime next year. The model is expected to have a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that generates up to 626 horsepower.
