April 26, 2016 – Two years ago, Volkswagen revealed the Golf R400 Concept at the Beijing Auto Show and confirmed that the most powerful Golf ever will be going into production.
However, the German automaker has apparently decided to abandon the 400hp+ Golf in the wake of the diesel emissions scandal, according to AutomotiveNews. Moreover, Volkswagen reportedly plans to use the Golf R400’s turbocharged 2.0-liter engine in future Audi models.
The good news is that VW is keeping the standard Golf R alive, and should introduce the next-generation model after 2020. Predictably, the next-gen Golf R will come with more power and will be more than 100 kilograms lighter than the current model.
