McLaren and BMW join forces to build engines

February 3, 2017 – Good news! The two car companies that brought us the legendary McLaren F1 have joined forces again. We’re talking about McLaren and BMW.

How is BMW connected to the McLaren F1, you ask? Well, they sort of designed the 6.1-liter V12 engine that powers the British supercar, and McLaren wants more of that German engineering in their modern supercars.

By partnering with BMW, McLaren is looking to design more powerful engines that are also more efficient, and the partnership will also include Ricardo, the engineering firm that developed the 3.8-liter V8 engine used in McLaren’s current line-up of cars.
