Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N outpaces Audi RS7 in a drag race, highlighting the growing dominance of electric cars in straight-line speed. Audi wins in braking tests.
In a head-to-head drag race, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N outpaced the powerful Audi RS7, despite its impressive Quattro all-wheel drive. The electric Ioniq 5 N, with a boost mode delivering 641 horsepower, managed to out-accelerate the 621-hp RS7 in two out of three half-mile races. The closely matched rivals, both offering all-wheel drive and similar weight, showcased the growing dominance of electric vehicles in straight-line speed.
Drag Race Breakdown: Ioniq 5 N vs. Audi RS7
In the first drag race, Audi’s RS7 Performance, with its famed Quattro system, took an early lead and crossed the finish line first. However, the tables turned in the second and third races as Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N, equipped with dual electric motors, secured narrow victories by half a car length.
The two cars also faced off in roll races, where the Hyundai’s “fake gear-shift mode” mimicked an internal combustion engine, but the RS7 easily secured a win. However, when switched to standard EV mode, the Ioniq 5 N narrowly outperformed the Audi.
Braking Test Results
While the Ioniq 5 N triumphed in most drag races, the Audi RS7 claimed a decisive win in the braking test. From 100 mph, the RS7 stopped several car lengths sooner than the Hyundai, thanks to its larger brakes and stickier tires, proving that Audi’s engineering still shines in other performance metrics.
