Renault unveils teaser shots of the new Renault 4, showcasing its retro-inspired design, including a light-up grille, sliding fabric roof, and classic details.
Renault has teased the all-new Renault 4, giving us an early glimpse of this retro-inspired mini SUV. Featuring a light-up grille, a sliding fabric roof, and a classic boxy shape, the initial signs are promising for fans of nostalgic yet modern cars.
While Renault humorously presents this as a “new jigsaw puzzle,” these teaser shots reveal details of the quirky SUV, which will slot above the Renault 5 in the lineup—despite the smaller number. It seems that, for Renault, less truly can mean more.
Key features include a retractable fabric roof and an illuminated grille. At the rear, split pill-shaped lights are set against sharp roof and tailgate lines, intersecting with a subtle rear wing. Trapezoidal quarter windows above the rear arches, along with parallel body lines, pay homage to the original Renault 4. Although pictures of the vinyl prints extending from the lower windscreen to the front wheel arches haven’t been released yet, they are said to be another nod to the past.
The new Renault 4 also comes adorned with black accents across its body, and of course, it sports Y-spoked alloy wheels—a must-have for any playful French car. These wheels add to the character of this retrofuturistic design, keeping with tradition.
In terms of size, the Renault 4 is expected to measure around 4.14 meters in length, making it slightly larger than the Renault 5. Despite its compact form, it seems aimed at a more practical, utilitarian audience, setting it apart from its sibling.
The full reveal of the Renault 4 will take place at the Paris Motor Show in less than two weeks, and it will arrive at dealerships next year. It’s clear that the era of small, retrofuturistic SUVs is upon us—are you excited?
