Ford Confirms 2027 Le Mans Entry to Challenge Ferrari

Ford is returning to Le Mans in 2027, aiming for outright victory in the World Endurance Championship, reigniting the iconic Ford vs Ferrari rivalry.

Ford has officially confirmed its entry into the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027, with one clear goal: to secure outright victory at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. This marks the first time in 60 years that Ford will be competing for the top spot, reigniting the legendary Ford vs Ferrari rivalry.

While Ford’s return to Le Mans is exciting, it won’t just be a showdown between these two iconic brands. A total of several major manufacturers—including Aston Martin, Cadillac, Alpine, BMW, Peugeot, Porsche, and Toyota—are expected to compete in the 2025 WEC season, promising an intense and highly competitive race. Whether this will be the ultimate battle or a massive pile-up at the first corner is yet to be seen.

Ford Performance plans to run a full factory team with the goal of recapturing its famous 1-2-3 victory from 1966 and the consecutive wins that followed. Although details on the car, team, and drivers remain undisclosed, the announcement brings us back to the glory days of Ford’s dominance in endurance racing.

Bill Ford, the company’s chairman, shared his enthusiasm: “When we race, we race to win. There is no track or race that means more to our history than Le Mans. It is where we took on Ferrari and triumphed in the 1960s. It’s where we returned 50 years later and shocked the world again.” Ford’s passion for Le Mans and its rich history in endurance racing is clear, and the company is ready to take on the world once more.

As Richard Mille, President of the FIA’s Endurance Racing Commission, aptly put it, “Endurance racing’s golden age is right here, right now.” The stage is set for an exhilarating battle at Le Mans in 2027.
