Toyota GR Yaris: Enhanced Aero Package and Engine Upgrades

Toyota is elevating the GR Yaris in 2025 with a range of exciting updates. At the recent Kenshiki event, the automaker revealed the Aero Package Prototype, which aims to boost this already impressive hot hatch’s performance. Rather than focusing on top-speed increases, these upgrades are designed to enhance downforce and improve cornering abilities.

A standout feature is the manually adjustable rear wing, which provides extra downforce when needed. The Yaris also sports a bulging bonnet with a deep inlet to improve cooling for the 1.6-litre turbo three-cylinder engine. Additional cooling inlets are placed around the vehicle, such as behind the front wheel arches and along the lower rear splitter, to optimize airflow.

Another exciting addition is the vertical handbrake, which helps lock the rear wheels to initiate controlled slides, further enhancing the Yaris’ agility.

While power remains unchanged at 276bhp and 288 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-62mph time of around 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 143mph, the Aero Package focuses on improving cornering dynamics rather than straight-line speed.

Additionally, Toyota is testing a new 2.0-litre turbo-four engine in the M Concept prototype, which could appear in a future GR Yaris model. The company is also preparing the Yaris for motorsport events like the Nürburgring 24 Hours, using these platforms to fine-tune its new Direct Automatic Transmission system for quicker gear shifts.
