Watch: Porsche Teases Road-Legal 963 Hypercar for 2025

Porsche is hinting at a street-legal version of its 963 Le Mans race car, with a full reveal expected in June 2025. The teaser, released on the 50th anniversary of the iconic 917’s road conversion, strongly suggests that the German marque is preparing to revive the concept of turning a track-dominating prototype into a legal road car.

Fifty years ago, Porsche converted the 917 chassis 30 into a road-legal car for Italian businessman and Martini heir Gregorio Rossi di Montelera. That car, finished in Martini Silver and upgraded with essentials like a horn, indicators, mufflers, and a spare tire, also featured tan Hermès leather seats and suede trim. It was an ultra-exclusive build, made for a single client—but its legacy has endured.

The recently restored 917/30 continues to be driven today, a fact Porsche highlighted in its new video, which ends by flashing the silhouette of what looks unmistakably like the 963 LMDh racer—hinting at its transformation for the road.

While Porsche hasn’t officially confirmed production, the possibilities are enticing. The company could build a one-off street-legal 963, echoing the original 917 conversion, or produce a limited-run hypercar to rival the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Red Bull RB17. Either approach would reaffirm Porsche’s ability to blend motorsport engineering with road-going performance.

The concept seems rooted in Porsche’s DNA, with the brand stating: “The spirit that made the 917 road car possible is alive today.” Stay tuned—June can’t come soon enough.
