Chery is taking aim at the Toyota Hilux with its all-new pickup-focused sub-brand, Himla. Designed to serve both commercial and private buyers, Himla will produce trucks in compact, mid-size, and full-size categories, starting with a bold double-cab model expected in 2026.
The brand name is inspired by the Himalayan mountains and reflects Chery’s growing global ambitions. Its first model, which strongly resembles the previously shown KP11 prototype—nicknamed “Kepel”—promises serious off-road capability and versatile powertrains.
Kepel will offer petrol, diesel, and electric versions, with some powertrains developed specifically for this truck. Chery is also expected to include its Super Hybrid System, already available in the Omoda 7, for improved efficiency and performance.
On the outside, Kepel features a four-door, four-seat design with a muscular stance. It rides on chunky 19-inch all-terrain tyres, with rugged underbody protection and a rear ladder frame. Thick wheel arches and a bold grille flanked by sleek LED headlights give it a strong, aggressive look that draws comparisons to the Toyota Hilux.
Though detailed specs remain limited, Chery confirms the vehicle will meet a global five-star safety standard and be equipped with a suite of advanced safety features.
With Himla, Chery aims to redefine expectations in the pickup segment—delivering durability, technology, and global appeal in a package designed for serious work and adventure.
