Toyota once again proved unstoppable in the World Rally Championship (WRC), wrapping up yet another stellar season filled with victories and milestones. The Japanese manufacturer has been in a league of its own, winning every rally of the season except one — the sole exception being Greece.
Rovanperä Leads Toyota to Another One-Two Finish
At the Central European Rally, which concluded on Sunday, Toyota showcased its incredible consistency once more. Kalle Rovanperä stormed to victory, while Elfyn Evans, who reclaimed the lead in the overall standings, secured second place.
This dominant performance sealed the manufacturers’ championship for Toyota two rounds before the end of the season marking an astonishing fifth consecutive title.
Kankkunen’s Emotional Triumph as Team Principal
Serving as Toyota’s team principal for the Central European Rally, rally legend Juha Kankkunen could hardly contain his emotions after witnessing his team’s latest triumph.
“It’s difficult to find the right words, what to say,” Kankkunen admitted. “I have been involved in seven manufacturers’ titles as a driver before, and this was my first one as a team principal.”
It was a moment of deep pride and sentiment for the four-time world champion.
“I had tears in my eyes when the boys came to celebrate with me,” he confessed, reflecting on the team’s touching celebration.
A Golden Era That Might Never Return
Toyota’s dominance has been unmatched in modern rallying, and Kankkunen doesn’t believe such supremacy will be repeated anytime soon.
“It doesn’t happen very often not in one decade, maybe not in two, maybe never,” he predicted confidently.
Teamwork at the Core of Success
Kankkunen was quick to credit the entire Toyota organization for the flawless season from the top management to the smallest details behind the scenes.
“It has been a really good year for us. Everything has worked from the cooks to the management and everybody has been pushing 100%. We have a good atmosphere in the team, and the result is right there,” Kankkunen said proudly.
Toyota’s Reign Rolls On
With such unity, skill, and determination, Toyota has cemented its place as the benchmark of modern rallying. And with legends like Juha Kankkunen guiding the charge, their story is far from over even as their current dominance may one day be remembered as a golden age that’s impossible to repeat.
