Toyota Gazoo Racing has lifted the covers on a significantly revamped DKR GR Hilux and confirmed a refreshed driver lineup for its 2026 World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC) campaign.A Stronger, Lighter, and Smarter Hilux
The latest evolution of the DKR GR Hilux has been engineered to deliver superior performance and durability. According to TGR, this version is stronger and stiffer than its predecessor, thanks to an all-new tubular chassis designed to boost torsional rigidity while trimming unnecessary weight.
The car also features a reinforced transmission, built to withstand the grueling two-week marathon that the Dakar Rally presents from January 3–17. Improvements in both serviceability and stability were top priorities in development, ensuring the team is optimally equipped in its pursuit of a fifth successive manufacturers’ crown and fourth drivers’ title.
This marks the first TGR rally-raid car developed by Christian Loriaux, who joined Overdrive Racing earlier this year, alongside former TGR team principal Glyn Hall. The upgraded Hilux will debut with the TGR W2RC squad at Dakar before being offered to private customers.
A Reshaped Driver Lineup for 2026
There’s movement behind the wheel as well. With reigning world champion Lucas Moraes departing for Dacia Sandriders, the main seat opens for a major new addition:
Two-time Dakar bike winner Toby Price steps up to the official TGR W2RC team after making his first four-wheel Dakar appearance in a privateer Hilux.
Price will partner with Armand Monleon, who remains with the team after navigating for Moraes. Meanwhile, team regulars Seth Quintero and Henk Lategan continue their campaigns into 2026.
Lategan is the only driver keeping the same navigator, staying paired with Brett Cummings for an all-South African setup. Quintero will once again be joined by his relatively new co-driver Andrew Short.
Driver Reactions
Toby Price
“This is one of those pinch-yourself moments in my motorsport career. Dakar at this level is something only a very small group of people get to experience, and I’m extremely grateful to Toyota, Red Bull, Peter Kittle Motor Company, and all our partners for making it happen.
“I’m really looking forward to heading back to Dakar for redemption after how our debut ended last year. Letting our partners down and seeing Sam [Sunderland] suffer a concussion was tough, but it’s only added to my motivation. Teaming up with Armand is incredible. He brings so much experience, and I truly believe we’re in a great position to take it to the Dakar greats.”
Henk Lategan
“After our first full season in the W2RC, Brett and I feel more prepared than ever for the next edition of the Dakar.”
