The countdown is on to a spectacular season finale as the Road to Sharjah – Grand Prix of Sharjah brings the 2025 UIM F1H2O World Championship to its dramatic conclusion on Khaled Lagoon from December 19–21. With world titles still undecided, Sharjah once again becomes the focal point of international powerboat racing.

A Three-Way Title Battle Comes to a Head
The championship arrives in the UAE finely balanced, with a three-way fight between Victory Team drivers Shaun Torrente and Alec Weckström and Team Sweden’s Jonas Andersson. The Sharjah Team’s Rusty Wyatt remains mathematically in contention, keeping alive hopes of an extraordinary late-season twist.

Four intense rounds across Lake Toba (Indonesia), Shanghai, Zhengzhou and Jeddah have delivered shifting momentum, dramatic swings and relentless pressure, setting the stage for a classic Sharjah showdown.

Torrente Holds the Advantage
Victory Team’s Shaun Torrente leads the standings on 89 points and arrives with the clearest route to what would be his fourth world title in eight years. Consistency has been the hallmark of the American’s campaign, capped by a commanding victory in Jeddah where he dominated from pole position to the chequered flag, opening a 14-point lead over defending champion Jonas Andersson.

Andersson Hunting Under Pressure
Defending champion Jonas Andersson sits second on 75 points after a season marked by both adversity and brilliance. A win in Shanghai and a stunning recovery drive to second place in Jeddah reaffirm his pace, while his advantage in the F1H2O Pole Position Trophy underlines his qualifying strength—an important weapon on Sharjah’s demanding circuit.

Setbacks earlier in the season mean Andersson almost certainly needs victory in Sharjah, coupled with misfortune for Torrente, to reclaim the crown. Few, however, are better equipped to thrive under such pressure.

Weckström Remains a Dangerous Outsider
With 72 points, Alec Weckström remains an outside contender but one capable of influencing the title outcome. His breakthrough victory in Zhengzhou highlighted a season of growing confidence and speed. Together with Torrente, he has helped secure Victory Team a commanding lead in the Teams’ Championship.

To claim the drivers’ title himself, Weckström would need a perfect weekend and setbacks for both rivals, but his role as both contender and potential spoiler makes him a key figure in the finale.

Sharjah Team Poised to Shape the Fight
Racing on home waters, the Sharjah Team could play a decisive role. Rusty Wyatt, winner of the season opener in Indonesia, remains a consistent podium threat and carries the added motivation of competing in front of home support. Though his title hopes are slim, his impact on the front-running battle could be significant.

Team-mate Stefan Arand has delivered one of his strongest seasons, highlighted by multiple fourth-place finishes and a pole position in Shanghai, underlining his ability to challenge at the sharp end.

Depth of Competition Adds Uncertainty
The supporting cast is strong enough to disrupt any championship scenario. Peter Morin, Bartek Marszalek, Erik Stark and Grant Trask have all shown the pace to finish inside the top six.

Marszalek arrives in particularly strong form after an outstanding Jeddah performance, while Stark has a proven record in Sharjah and is eager to finish the season on a high. Trask’s seamless adaptation to Team Sweden has added further depth to an already competitive grid.

Youth, Experience and Determination Across the Grid
Elsewhere, emerging talent and seasoned racers continue to make their mark. Alberto Comparato and rookie Damon Cohen have impressed in Sprint races, while Ben Jelf has rebounded from early reliability issues to re-enter the points. Marit Strømøy shows growing pace with the four-stroke Apex V8 DAC, matching Jelf on points.

The Red Devil–SMC F1 Team has displayed strong qualifying speed, Team Abu Dhabi’s Mansoor Al-Mansoori continues his learning curve, and Brent Dillard returns to the grid after recovery, adding further intrigue to the finale.

A Classic Finale Awaits in Sharjah
With championship destiny still undecided, Khaled Lagoon is set to deliver another unforgettable chapter in F1H2O history. As engines fire and strategies unfold, Sharjah will once again decide who earns the right to be crowned 2025 UIM F1H2O World Champion.
