Jeddah, 11 June 2012: Saudi Champion Abdulaziz Turki AlFaisal accomplished a historic achievement during his first participation in one of the most important GT3 races of the ADAC GT Masters, rounds 3 & 4 of the championship at Sachsenring circuit in Germany with Schubert Motorsport Team. AlFaisal finished 3rd between 44 cars on the starting grid of round 4, which marked a new achievement to his incredible racing career.
Abdulaziz Turki AlFaisal is the only driver at the ADAC GT Masters that represents the Arabs in this international event on-board a BMW-Z4 GT3, ADAC GT Masters is considered one of the most important GT3 racing championships around the world with participants from the biggest and most famous car makers in the world, and the best GT3 drivers from around the world. Abdulaziz finished 3rd after a great fight with Edward Sandstorm who ended up in 2nd place. After starting from 5th, Abdulaziz gained 4th place and shortly 3rd place which impressed the 25,000 spectators at the circuit. He finished the race in 1:01:08.348, just 1.433 seconds behind Sandstorm, and with an average speed of 158,4 km/h. With more time, the Saudi Champion could’ve ended the race in 2nd and even 1st. AlFaisal most impressive feat was clocking a 1:22.8, the second fastest laptime, which was a mere 0.1 seconds slower than the fastest.
After the race, the Red Bull Athlete Abdulaziz Turki AlFaisal said: “It was a great race and a strong competition between me and my last year team mate Edward Sandstorm fighting for 2nd place but he was blocking all the way, yet Alhamdullah we managed the pace and proved that we are on the top level by securing 3rd place, Mirko did a good job in the first stint by defending and gaining position, also I would like to thank everyone at Schubert Motorsport Team for all the effort and hard work they’ve put, and I consider this achievement a strong preparation for the 24H LeMans which I will compete in next week, it’s also an honor to be the only Saudi and Arab driver to compete in the race.”
