The Ælla-60: A Lightweight Ferrari-Inspired Sports Car for Purists

In an age dominated by digital dashboards and autonomous driving, the Ælla-60 stands as a bold return to the basics. Developed by Art Machines and designed by Anthony Jannarelly, former chief designer at Caterham, this sports car is all about driving enjoyment. Inspired by the raw, mechanical feel of 1990s classics, it blends Ferrari performance with modern sensibilities, delivering a lightweight, manual-driving experience that’s becoming increasingly rare.

The Ælla-60 takes its inspiration from the Ferrari 360 Modena, a legendary 1990s supercar. While Art Machines doesn’t directly name the 360, the mid-mounted, naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V8 and six-speed manual transmission offer strong hints. With 473 horsepower and a claimed weight of just 2,491 pounds, the Ælla-60 promises thrilling acceleration—hitting 62 mph in just 3.5 seconds.

The Ælla-60’s design, with its curvaceous lines, is a nod to 1960s sports cars—a style Jannarelly perfected with the 2016 Jannarelly Design-1 and continued with Caterham’s Project V concept. Jannarelly’s earlier work also includes the bold W Motors Lykan Hypersport, made famous in ‘Fast & Furious 7’.

While the Ælla-60 exudes vintage charm, the interior isn’t stuck in the past. Despite its old-school exterior, it includes modern comforts like air conditioning and phone connectivity. This perfect balance of classic style and contemporary features makes it a standout in the world of lightweight sports cars.

With a limited production of just 60 units, the Ælla-60 is set to be a rare gem. Podium Advanced Technologies, the Italian company behind the assembly of the Ælla-60, has previously contributed to the creation of high-performance supercars like the SCG 004S and the Lancia Delta Futurista restomod. Production is slated to begin in 2026, but the privilege of owning one comes at a steep price—$895,380.

In a market increasingly obsessed with tech and automation, the Ælla-60 brings us back to what truly matters: the driving experience. With its Ferrari-inspired powertrain, lightweight build, and engaging manual gearbox, the Ælla-60 is set to become a collector’s dream for driving purists.
