Supported by Emirates Global Aluminium Company “EGA”, Emirati Circuit Racing and Endurance Star Khaled Al Qubaisi is on a mission to represent the United Arab Emirates and Abu Dhabi Racing in what is considered the biggest event for Endurance Racing (World Endurance Championship FIA WEC), where the Proton Competition Team of Khaled Al Qubaisi, Christian Ried, and Klaus Bachler have finished their 6 hours race fourth after a lot of considerable challenges that might have put them in the 7th place.
Car number 88 of Proton Competition driven by our Emirati Champion Khaled Al Qubaisi, Klaus Bachler, and Christian Ried successfully imposed its presence at Belgian Spa Circuit when Porsche 911 RSR registered fastest in its Category (LMGTE AM) during the second free practice runs of 6hrs of Spa race. The drivers have undergone the free qualifying practice where the Abu Dhabi-Proton Competition Team has successfully achieved the fourth place in its category.
The 6hrs of Spa-Francorchamps race has started on the following sunny day with some cold wind on contrary to the free practice day where it was rainy. More than 46 thousand fans attended the race start, that has been excellent to Abu Dhabi-Proton Competition Team who surprisingly found itself stuck after a Porsche car (number 75), the matter that gave advantage to one of the late Austin Martin cars to overpass the Abu Dhabi Team car which has slid and missed some valuable time that led them to the 7th place.
“We were certain that Spa race is ours and we are heading to the stage”. Al Qubaisi said, and added: “But some unforeseen occasions have prevented us from achieving our goal. Thanks God we overcame the slip and made a good comeback to maintain our fourth place at least. Although we were unlucky, we are glad of the performance of the car and the points we have collected which enhance our position in the World Endurance Championship”.
The third round of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) will take place in France, with the majestic Le Mans which is considered the main event of the WEC on 14 and 15 June. Al Qubaisi commented: “We have to start preparing for this important race from now on; I hope we can achieve the results we are aiming to in each stage of the competition, which is to be on the podium and collect points as much as we can”.
