Alfa Romeo 4C full specs revealed

Alfa Romeo returns to the Geneva Motor Show with the final version of the 4C, a mid-engined rear-wheel drive coupe which first debuted as a concept during the same show in 2011.

Designed by Alfa Romeo and produced in the Maserati plant in Modena, the 4C will be available for purchase in 2013 and it will be the first car to mark the return of the Italian brand to the United States.

The Alfa Romeo 4C uses technologies and materials derived from the 8C Competizione such as carbon, aluminium and rear-wheel drive, in addition to technologies from the latest standard models from Alfa Romeo currently on the market.

Power comes from a new four-cylinder direct injection 1.75-liter turbo petrol engine producing 240 horsepower; it is mated to a seven-speed TCT dual-clutch transmission. The car’s weight-to-power ratio of less than 4 kg/hp indicates a curb weight of no more than 950 kilograms.

Design-wise, the production 4C looks very similar to the concept version; according to the Italian brand, the 4C is inspired by traditional iconic Alfa Romeo models, most notably the 33 Stradale. The cabin features a carbon fibre central cell, seats made of composite material, and a simplistic dashboard.
