Alpine has revealed the A390, a sleek electric five-door hatchback with standout performance and design. Crucially, it’s not a crossover. It sits low—lower than a VW ID.3—and maintains a sporty stance, staying close in spirit to the A110 coupe.
The A390 features a tri-motor setup: two independent motors at the rear for precise torque vectoring and one up front. This layout enables sharp, agile handling without the need for systems like active differentials or four-wheel steering. Alpine kept the car light by using smaller rear motors and skipping heavier tech rivals often rely on.
Performance is strong. The standard version produces 400bhp and does 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds, while the more powerful model delivers 470bhp and reaches 62mph in 3.9 seconds. Both use a high-capacity 89kWh battery, offering up to 347 miles of WLTP range. Fast charging from 15 to 80 percent takes around 25 minutes.
The design draws inspiration from the A110, with sculpted lines, a bubble-style rear glass, and unique triangular LED headlights. It’s more than a stretched Megane; Alpine re-engineered the platform with a wider track, new subframes, and upgraded battery and braking systems.
Inside, it mirrors the A290 with dual screens, physical controls, and Renault’s Google-based infotainment system. The software smartly calculates range and charging stops, factoring in elevation and road speed.
Compact dimensions mean tight rear space, but the A390 isn’t meant to be a family SUV. It’s a sharp, efficient EV built for driving enthusiasts.
