Discover the Alpine A390_β, a sleek five-seat SUV concept inspired by the A110, featuring F1-spec design elements and cutting-edge technology.
The Alpine A390_β concept SUV is essentially an A110 sports car with five seats, offering a bold glimpse into the future of Alpine. This upcoming coupe SUV takes design inspiration from the majestic Alps and incorporates Formula 1 technology, including racing-inspired seats and a unique steering wheel.
Let’s break down the name: all Alpine models start with “A,” and the number 3 signifies the vehicle’s size, making it larger than the A290 hot hatch. The “90” represents Alpine’s line of versatile, everyday vehicles, as the brand expands beyond its renowned A110. The Greek letter “β” (beta) indicates that this is still a concept, but a production model is just around the corner.
Alpine reveals that the A390_β is 85% representative of the final version that will hit the roads. Its design draws inspiration from the Alps, with the body described as a “monolithic bubble.” According to Alpine’s CEO, Philippe Krief, the A390_β combines the spirit of a racing car with the refinement of a luxury fastback, previewing the brand’s direction for 2025 and beyond.
The concept’s lighting is influenced by Alpine’s Alpenglow hydrogen racer, featuring light bars both front and rear, accompanied by a “Cosmic Dust” pattern of illuminated triangles. The front includes a flying bridge to improve aerodynamics, while the rear features a Le Mans-inspired shark fin and a large diffuser. The rear light bar extends 80mm, transforming the SUV into a longtail to reduce drag.
The A390_β rolls on snowflake-inspired wheels—22 inches at the front and 23 inches at the rear—centered by a blue gemstone, although this feature may not make it to production.
Inside, the cabin offers a highly conceptual design with suicide doors, carbon fiber seats, and 3D-printed headrests, modeled after Alpine’s F1 seats. With a press of a button, the driving position switches to “F1 mode,” raising the pedals and reclining the chair for a racing experience.
Sabelt harnesses keep you secure, and the F1-inspired steering wheel houses an “ice crystal” key. The dashboard displays holographic dials, adding a futuristic touch. Passengers in the rear are treated to a memory foam bench seat designed to feel like a fresh blanket of snow.
The production A390 will be built on Renault Group’s AmpR Medium platform, shared with the Nissan Ariya and Renault Megane E-Tech, but with a sportier setup featuring three electric motors. Two motors are mounted on the rear axle, one at the front, delivering non-permanent all-wheel drive and active torque vectoring for optimal handling.
By 2025, we’ll know whether this SUV can truly deliver the thrilling performance of an A110 in a larger, more versatile package.
