Audi ignites controversy after team order in Austria

August 3, 2015 – Audi ignited controversy in the fifth round of the 2015 DTM championship that was held at the Red Bull Ring in Austria this past weekend.

While battling for sixth place with Mercedes-Benz drivers Robert Wickens and Pascal Wehrlein, Audi Sport Team Phoenix driver Timo Scheider was ordered by Audi’s motorsport boss Wolfgang Ullrich to push out Wehrlein. Scheider complied and made contact with the Mercedes-Benz driver, whose car catapulted into Wickens’ car, leading to the retirement of both Mercedes drivers. Scheider was later disqualified from the race.

In the video, Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich is clearly heard shouting “schieb ihn raus” on the team radio, which translates to “push him out”.
