January 24, 2017 – Bernie Ecclestone has been replaced as chief executive of Formula One Group after Liberty Media completed its $8 billion takeover, while Ross Brawn makes a return to the sport.
Chase Carey, vice chairman of 21st Century Fox, has been appointed to succeed Ecclestone, who has been named chairman emeritus and will serve as an advisor to the new board.
Brawn has been named managing director, motorsports by Liberty as part of the restructure that includes Bernie Ecclestone’s ousting as chief executive. He will be joined by former ESPN executive vice president of sales and marketing Sean Bratches, who takes on the role of managing director, commercial operations.
