BMW accused of cheating diesel tests, company denies it

September 24, 2015 – A new report published by Germany’s Autobild magazine has revealed that BMW could be also cheating in diesel emissions tests, just a couple of days following Volkswagen’s admittance that it was cheating the same tests.

Autobild says BMW’s X3 xDrive20d had emissions more than eleven times higher than permitted by the European Union when it was tested by the International Council on Clean Transportation.

However, BMW quickly denied that it was rigging its cars, saying in a statement: “The BMW Group does not manipulate or rig any emissions tests. We observe the legal requirements in each country and adhere to all local testing requirements. When it comes to our vehicles, there is no difference in the treatment of exhaust emissions whether they are on rollers or on the road.”

BMW’s X5 SUV and 13 other BMW vehicles underwent the same tests, but they complied with the emissions regulations.

Despite BMW’s denial, the company’s shares fell by almost 8 percent this morning.
