BMW M2 to get 400 hp from new turbocharged engine

The much-awaited M version of the BMW 2 Series will get approximately 400 horsepower from a new turbocharged engine, and that is according to BMW M division’s boss Friedrich Nitschke.

Codenamed S57 B30, the new inline-six 3.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine is based on the upcoming B57 unit that will debut in the next-generation 7-Series.

The BMW M2 Coupe will feature a six-speed manual transmission or an optional dual-clutch seven-speed transmission, and it will weigh less than the M235i, helping it achieve the 0 to 100km/h sprint in 4.4 seconds. BMW is planning to offer the M2 with an optional xDrive all-wheel drive system.

Production of the M2 Coupe is expected to kick off during the fourth quarter of 2015.
