MotorSport Vision, and in collaboration with the British Racing Drivers’ Club, has announced a new junior single seater series for 2013. The new BRDC Formula 4 Championship has been created to provide a modern low cost series aimed at young drivers.
BRDC Formula 4 will see identical cars built around a chassis designed by the RFR company; the chassis will meet the latest 2012 FIA safety standards and feature front and rear wings.
Formula 4 cars will be powered by a 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine, producing 175 horsepower and featuring a Cosworth engine management system (EMS); the engine is mated to a six-speed Sadev transmission with paddle shifting. The cars will run on slick and wet compound Yokohama tyres.
A maximum of 4 cars will be granted to teams wishing to join the championship, while cost of participation is expected to range between $56,700 for private entrants and $113,400 for professional teams.
