The Cadillac F1 team has officially received approval to join the Formula 1 grid in 2026, marking a historic moment for motorsport. After months of anticipation, the FIA and Formula 1 have confirmed that General Motors (GM) and TWG Motorsports will bring a Cadillac-branded team to the championship starting in 2026.
This announcement follows the initial agreement reached in November 2023, and now, Cadillac’s entry is officially greenlit. A joint statement from the FIA and F1 confirmed that Cadillac’s application passed all the necessary sporting, technical, and commercial evaluations.
To celebrate, Cadillac unveiled a teaser video on Instagram showcasing an all-black F1 car, though it’s unclear if this livery will be the final design. Cadillac proudly refers to itself as a “distinctly American team” thanks to its partnership with TWG Motorsports, a newly formed entity combining various racing teams previously under Andretti Global. Despite this American influence, the team will be led by Graeme Lowdon, former sporting director at Marussia, and will operate from multiple locations, including a facility in Silverstone.
Initially, Cadillac will use Ferrari engines, but there are plans to eventually develop its own powertrains under the TWG GM Performance Power Units LLC banner. The team has already hired over 300 staff members and is working on aerodynamics, chassis, software, and vehicle dynamics. A wind tunnel model is in development, and parts production is well underway.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem called this a transformative step, noting that the addition of Cadillac’s F1 team will invigorate the sport and inspire future competitors.
