March 2, 2015 – Hallmark BMW design is a sign of hallmark BMW driving pleasure – a principle reflected by the status of the BMW 1 Series as the stand-out model in the premium compact segment for a decade now. With almost two million units of the BMW 1 Series sold worldwide, this latest edition is poised to set another new benchmark in driving pleasure in the premium compact segment.
As the current generation of the BMW 1 Series has established itself as a paragon of sporting excellence in its segment, the new-generation model continues along a similar path, a commitment clearly expressed in its appearance. The proportional lines and surface design of the all-new BMW 1 Series model range come together with a sophisticated interior ambience and reserves of power under the bonnet for a youthful, fresh and powerful skill-set, showcasing the car’s agility and dynamics-centric driving properties.
Carefully considered updates to the exterior design of the new BMW 1 Series shine the spotlight on its sporting elegance and high-end presence. A newly designed BMW kidney grille, larger air intakes, and flatter LED headlights help emphasise the car’s dynamic potential. The rear lights have also been completely remodeled, displaying the “L” shape characteristic of BMW models. Elsewhere, the stylish design of the upper centre console system is essential in accentuating the premium ambience on board the new model range.
Advanced chassis technology teams up with rear-wheel drive and an almost perfect (50:50) distribution of weight between the front and rear axles to give the new BMW 1 Series unmistakable handling traits headlined by agility and dynamic excellence. Options include adaptive suspension, M Sport suspension, Variable Sports Steering and an M Sport braking system. A Tyre Pressure Indicator showing each individual wheel is now part of the standard specification.
As an alternative to the standard six-speed manual gearbox, there is the option of an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, offering engagement speed control in conjunction with all the new-generation engines. This function uses a gear selection sensor, resulting in the smoothest possible gear changes.
Extended BMW EfficientDynamics technology and broad engine updates of the all-new 3-door and 5-door have been made to further reduce fuel consumption and emissions with three- and four-cylinder power units while providing sharper sporting responses on power delivery. For a sharper edge, a six-cylinder in-line engine allows the new BMW M135i with xDrive to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.
