Saudi Arabia’s Yazeed Al-Rajhi claimed his fourth FIA Middle East Rally Championship event win at the CNP Asfalistiki Cyprus Rally, but had opted to race for FIA European Rally Championship points rather than give himself a slim chance of winning a first regional title in the Middle East.
The Ford Fiesta RRC driver beat Polish ERC regular Kajetan Kajetanowicz by 48.9 seconds to seal the spoils with British co-driver Michael Orr.
Qatar’s Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari held off Khalid Al-Qassimi’s challenge to take third place, but MERC series leader Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah suffered engine problems in his Ford Fiesta RRC before the second stage, but still leads the series heading to the final round in Dubai in December.
