January 15, 2015 – Nasser Al-Attiyah’s Dakar domination continued into the eleventh stage of the Dakar Rally today as he secured his fifth success in the race so far; the general standings leader is now not far from winning his second Dakar.
Orlando Terranova has been the most threatening to the domination of Nasser Al-Attiyah. The Argentinean finished second, only 27 seconds behind the leader. Without his nightmarish stage 4, he would have been right in the mix for the general standings.
Yazeed Alrajhi, third overall, had mechanical problems with his Toyota and decided to drop out of the race just several kilometers from the start of the day’s special.
Joan Barreda has picked up a second consecutive stage victory in the bikes category. The Spaniard beat his team-mate Paulo Gonçalves by 17 seconds and once again proved that he possesses the speed to win the Dakar if the mishaps leave him be.
Only 17 seconds behind the stage winner, Paulo Gonçalves again performed well today. Most importantly, the Portuguese rider regains a further 2 minutes from Marc Coma who, with a lead of more than 5 minutes in the general standings, is far from having won his fifth Dakar.
