January 12, 2017 – Sebastien Loeb took a provisional victory in the tenth special stage of the Dakar Rally as team-mate Stephane Peterhansel was involved in an accident with a motorcycle rider.
Peterhansel hit KTM rider Simon Marcic and was forced to stop for 10 minutes to help out the Slovenian rider before medical crews arrived. However, the Peugeot driver could be given back the lost time, meaning he could still snatch the overall lead and stage win from Loeb.
Cyril Despres and Nani Roma maintained their positions in third and fourth overall, while Giniel de Villiers moved into fifth place as Mikko Hirvonen collided with a truck and stopped as a result.
Dakar debutant UAE’s Khalid Al Qassimi continued his impressive performance and is now in 9th place overall and leads the Arab drivers. Qatar’s Mohamed Abu Issa is 11th.
