Dakar Rally: Sebastien Loeb wins stage two and takes overall lead

January 4, 2016 – WRC legend Sebastien Loeb has won the shortened second special stage of the 2016 Dakar Rally today in the Peugeot 2008 DKR and took the overall lead of the event in the car category.

Nine-time World Rally champion Loeb was quickest through every checkpoint and finished the stage 2 minutes 23 seconds ahead of his Peugeot teammate and 11-time event winner Stephane Peterhansel, while last year’s Dakar winner Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah had a flat tyre and settled for eighth place.

ex-WRC driver Mikko Hirvonen finished the day fifth overall in his X-Raid Mini, behind the two Toyotas of Vladimir Vasilyev and Giniel de Villiers.

Toby Price was the quickest rider in the bike category, edging Ruben Faria by only 2 seconds to the top of the timesheet, whilst Ignacio Casale took the lead in the quad class.
